Magical surprises for the one-year anniversary: Janin Ullmann and David Garrett celebrate with Cirque du Soleil ALIZÉ
One year of ALIZÉ in Berlin, and we celebrated in style! At our anniversary gala at Theater am Potsdamer Platz, the audience was in for two big surprises.
The show had barely begun when the mysterious “Meanings” pulled a large box onto the stage, and out stepped host Janin Ullmann in a glamorous gala look, charmingly shaking herself off and drawing the first big laughs of the evening. Her entrance wasn’t quite as easy as it looked, though: the box was so cramped she could barely move, and she “just hoped my claustrophobia wouldn’t get the better of me!”
Shortly afterwards, star violinist David Garrett gave us one of the most emotional moments of the night, playing a very personal birthday serenade as he walked through the audience. Chatting with Janin Ullmann afterwards, he revealed that he’s a big Cirque du Soleil fan and has already seen ALIZÉ.
During the high-energy finale “Planquine”, Janin Ullmann became part of the show once more, placing the dandelion, the symbol of ALIZÉ, into the hands of our main character Alizé. To close the evening, she presented the cast and crew with the anniversary award for one year of magic in Berlin.
Since the world premiere on November 20, 2025, more than 500,000 tickets have been sold and over 350 shows performed. Marek Lieberberg, CEO of Live Nation GSA and co-producer, called the anniversary a “milestone for this historic Cirque du Soleil residency at Berlin’s Theater am Potsdamer Platz”: “ALIZÉ has enchanted audiences far beyond the capital, across Germany and Europe, with a truly unique show. We are entering its second year with great optimism!”
